Half-way thru the Pledge Drive!

Hello me Droogies! 

We are halfway through the drive and still a bit to go. The first few days were rocking, but it's slackin since. In case you don't follow me on the social medias, you been missing these celebratory posts:

So we got another week to make the goal, and I know everybody wants a sketchbook of my ink portraits. Once the goal is met, I will produce them and make them available... if the goal is met by the end of the drive, I will send one to each of my patrons who want one!

New pledges also receive a holiday card from me, and those at the Dust Bunny ($5) and above level receive a handmade ornament of either the Ghost Skater or Brad McGuire on the can, your choice! 

   Brad is a little under 5" tall, and the Skater is 6" sneaker to wing-tip.

I've also been posting about the different pledge levels/rewards themselves. At this point we are about halfway through the lot, from the most basic (the lint), through the one most people go for (the roomba rabbit). Aren't they cute and/or gross? 

Lastly but not least (maybe I should have lead with this one?) I'll mention my new introduction video. I made this one to highlight the work I have done over the first year on Patreon, and mention what the next year is looking like. It's very satisfying to look back on all of the work I have done there, and all of the extras I have posted just for my patrons. Check it out! You know you wanna.

Pagan Pledge Drive!

Hello Droogies!
Today I am starting my first pledge drive for my Patreon page! It's been a little over a year since the initial launch, and though it's been a success, I am hoping to reach the next "goal" on my page with this drive. I've put together a few rewards for new pledges, and a year's end card for all of my Patrons, new and old. Reaching the goal also "activates" the goal reward on my page, which will be a Dogspunk Sketchbook; a collection of ink drawings I have done over the years. Probably a PG version and a naughty one as an extra.

PLUS: if we reach the goal in the first week, or pass it and make the next goal, I will send out hard copies of the sketchbook free as a way of thanks!
So here's the break-down:
All Patrons (new and old) will receive a Year's End Card, mailed to you with a personalized greeting from me if you pledge at $1 or more!

Pagan Holidays!

Happy Holidays, me Droogs! It's been quite a year and we all can't wait to put it behind us, but there's that awkward time at the end of the year to deal with... when we show our love through the capitalist lens of shopping and gift giving! What better time to send out an email blast! I've not sent an e-mail since our successful kickstarter campaign for the Hard to Swallow comics anthology, published by Zan Christensen at Northwest Press. The book is beautiful and would make a great gift for the perv in your life. Visit Northwest Press to purchase... they are having a 40% off sale through the 17th of December and have a large catalog of LGBT(etc.) comics, including a few other anthologies I have pieces in, as well as a broad range of quality stuff! There's also the ALPHABET anthology from Stacked Deck Press, which benefits the Prism Comics Queer Press Grant. It's all people who have applied for the grant over the past decade, and I must say it's one of the strongest anthologies I've ever read, and I am not just saying that because I have a piece in it. Most anthologies are full of some good, some bad, and average out to be, well, average. But this is all really great stuff. I'm proud to be a part of ALPHABET. In my own store I have copies of my comic Feral and the Ghost Skater: Damaged self-published/printed version (glossy comic-book version coming soon with extra pages) up for sale, as well as a new t-shirt design from earlier this year, and some older shirts still available. It's been a little over a year since the launch, and I've been cranking out content on it pretty well. It's been 6 months since I launched my Patreon page, and I wanted to give an update. Things have been good there, and after a few months of posting some exclusive stories and archived stories, I finally got into the weeds with the next chapter of "Feral and the Ghost Skater", which is called "Damaged" and peeks in on what's been going on with Feral's alter-ego, Grant. Grant is the sad-sack of the bunch. the rest of the characters are having fun, but he just can't find the joy in his situation. Poor fella.

Anyways, as so often does, life got in the way of this story. The current political season got me all worked up and I felt like I had something to say, so rather than continue to engage in social media flame-wars, I decided to make a comic about how I came to be the political creature I am today, and how that informs my views on this current season. I hope you will take the time to read it, and share it with whomever you feel might enjoy it. I'm not a political scientist, nor an english major, so please don't judge it as if it's a professional essay. It's a comic book.

Hard to Swallow Kick Starter!

Hey All!

As you probably have noticed, we've had a kickstarter campaign going to fund the printing of the collected volume of Hard to Swallow Comics, put together by Zan of North West Press!

We passed the initial goal of $15,000 around midnight on Weds, and we have a few stretch goals in play now: hardcover editions if we reach $17,500, and a full color section including a cover gallery and color pin-ups if we reach the $20,000 mark. At the rate we are going, we will easily make the first stretch goal, and if momentum keeps we will make the second!
I had to kick and scream and generally make a fool of myself to get the color section goal included, so let's make my making an ass of myself worth it, Droogies!

Patreon is a way to get paid for creating the things you’re already creating (webcomics, videos, songs, whatevs).  Fans pledge a few bucks per month OR per thing you release, and then you get paid every month, or every time you release something new (whether it’s on SoundCloud, YouTube, your own website, or anywhere).

For patrons:

Patreon is a way to pay your favorite creators for making the stuff you love.  Instead of literally throwing money at your screen (trust us, that doesn’t work), you can now pledge a few bucks per thing that a creator makes.  For example, if you pledge $2 per video, and the creator releases 3 videos in February, then your card gets charged a total of $6 that month.  This means the creator gets paid regularly (every time she releases something new), and you become a bonafide, real-life patron of the arts.  That’s right.  Imagine you, in a long frilly white wig, painted on a 10-foot canvas on the wall of a Victorian mansion.  And imagine your favorite creators making a living doing what they do best… because of you.

     Comikaze!

     I'll be at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo this weekend, at the Los Angeles Convention Center! I'm doing some selling, signing, volunteering, and speaking on a panel! IK,R?

     I'll be essentially a cast-away on Prism Comics and Northwest Press's LGBTQIA COMICS ISLAND (booth 910 & 912)! Come and check us out! The folks at Comikaze are being very good to us this year. It's my first time there, as I've usually been focused on Bent-Con this time of year. I'm looking very forward to this!

   

     Marginalized Tattoo!

     News from the shop; my friend and sometime co-worker Josh Schneider is working full time now at Marginalized Tattoo and that's a good thing.

     The shop is a perfect size for two artists, and having worked together for 5 years at West Hollywood Tattoo, we know we can work together well.

why the Fantastic Four matters (to me)

In a few days, the reboot movie of the Fantastic Four hits the theaters. 10 years ago, the first actual FF film was released (the earlier Corman film was never released). After seeing it, I had the idea for this little strip, and with all of the nay-sayers raising their heads to claim no one wants to even see an FF movie, I felt I had to speak up, in my own way. I don't care if you didn't like the film and you want this one to fail as well, but there are fans out there, so stop saying no one cares, okay? I'm not confident that there will ever be a decent movie with these characters until Marvel gets the rights back, but with them cancelling the book to spite Fox, I'm a little bothered with them as well.

Feral and the Ghost Skater: Stay Bullet

I am very proud to be the recipient of the 2015 Queer Press Grant.

This was the forth time I applied and the third time with this particular story.

I don't think I would have won if I hadn't taken the story writing process more seriously than I have in the past. All of my comic writing to this point had been done in the form of sketching in the panels, and I've found that has worked well enough for shorter pieces, but Stray Bullet is the longest narrative I've written to date. This third time applying for the grant and the process of "selling" my story to the judges (after some experience with writing since the last time I had applied) allowed me to see this story as a whole for the first time, rather than the chunk in front of me at the moment. 

Now I knew I needed to withdraw the pages I've published so far in favor of writing the story as a whole before committing any to more art. What's been seen will still be in there, but not necessarily 100% as it is now... and not entirely canon. 

If you have any of the self-published copies of Feral and the Ghost Skater #1 or #2, consider them collectors items.  I have a couple of copies of #1 left, and half a dozen of #2, they will be for sale until they are gone*, but after that I'm excited to finish writing and present you with a story that is as solid as it can be and that I will be and am very proud of.

So far I've written enough for four issues of 30 pages apiece, and it isn't finished yet! It's getting more personal all the time, and I'm very pleased with what I am doing with this book. Where is it going? 

All I can say is that the end will leave every character changed radically. 

If you are new to the world of Feral and the Ghost Skater, Hard to Swallow comics #3 and Hard to Swallow comics #4 are still available, and feature early black and white stories of these characters (along with other short stories by myself and Justin Hall). Bent Comix Sampler also has a 4 page full color "primer" on the characters, which gives a good introduction to many who will appear in Stray Bullet.

* According to the creator's inventory list on Prism Comics' website shop, they have a stash of Feral and the Ghost Skater #1. Also, Isotope Comics in San Francisco has a handful, last time I checked. Ask to see my toilet seat painting while you are there!
